The mindset
A dear saint asked me a very simple question at an event Sunday that I have never been asked, nor answered about the new focus of Uprisingyouth. Namely: Why would anyone want to get involved? We want our kids to come to our church.
Quite simply, today , especially in this area, there are many more smaller congregations than ever. Many have a difficult time just supporting their pastor and paying the overhead for the plant itself. There are few young people and fewer programs for young people because of lack of vision and lack of cash to fund it.
A regional view of ministry is quite effective in a region of small congregations. Combining resources to sponsor events to reach out to the city or region makes events possible that otherwise may never happen. It also lets young people know about events in the region that other churches are having to give them a alternative to just hanging out, Most don't know about the other events because they are simply not told and are not encouraged to go to anything their particular church does not sponsor.
If we really care about our young people and the future leaders of our churches, this has to change. The kids see the fractured and divided church who all think they are the only ones who have the truth and it is repulsive to them. Just because we won't say it out loud-or admit it, does not mean it is not what they see and feel about the church today. It is time for a change-NOW. Uprisingyouth is a catalyst for getting your event heard beyond your church for free.
